Day 20: Twisty Rows {30 Days, 30 Ways}

Day Twenty: Twisty Rows
Skill To Learn: Twisting Along A Parting With Crossed Bobbies
Difficulty: Pretty Simple with a Practice Run!
Time Commitment: 20 Minutes
What You Need: Gel, Comb, 6 Bobbies

 For Day Twenty of 30 Days, 30 Ways, I am going to build on the skill that you learned on Day Four: Twisted Bangs.  But for today’s version, we are going to twist and anchor the entire top portion of your head.   First, I will show you how to slice your partings horizontally (on my youngest daughter, Alayna Kate) and then we will see how the same style looks when styled with vertical partings (on my oldest daughter, Emilie).

Begin with a damp head of hair, lightly gelling the top portion of your hair at the roots.   (If you have bangs, like Alayna, you will want to part them out first and only gel from that line back.  Emilie’s hair, below, is an example of this look styled with the bangs twisted in.)  Remember to keep your partings clean!  This style involves dividing multiple sections and keeping the hair combed smoothly in the different directions, and the straight partings are paramount to the overall look.  Once you have your first rectangle sectioned out, twist it to the back while slowly pulling the hair down to the bottom of the parting, where you will anchor the hair with crossed bobbies.  Then do the same thing again for one or two more partings.  You want to determine the width of each row by how thick your hair is: finer hair gets wider partings, thicker hair gets thinner partings.  Then, you can leave this style as is or use it as a springboard for an upstyle: blowdry and flatiron, diffuse into curls, or weave a simple braid down the length of your hair!  The options are endless!

 Below is an example of this style with the partings sliced vertically and the bangs twisted back.  Also note that Alayna’sa hair is finer and Emilie’s is much thicker, so you can get an idea of how the two look different!

Lastly, here is an inspirational option for using the Twisty Rows as the springboard for an upstyle.  I paired it with the Flippy Bun positioned on the side.

Have a great day and remember that someone needs a ray of light today that only you can shine.
Make time for inspiration, be yourself without apology and always light your world with goodness!
